For Your Eyes, Only: Christian Louboutin’s New Dazzling Shadow Collection
Introducing the designer’s new Tape à l’Oeil Eye Colour collection.
The idea of turning heads doesn’t apply only to Christian Louboutin’s shoe designs. It was also very much on his mind when he designed his new eye-shadow-color collection. “I’ve always been fascinated with how much the eyes say. Eyes reveal. They have a life. They carry one’s life, what has happened in your life. It is through the eyes that you see someone’s personality,” Louboutin explains.
“Tape à l’oeil means ‘eye-catching.’ It is a woman who exposes her femininity so that no one can miss her.”
With six matte shades of nude, ranging from cream to cognac tones, and six shimmering metallic shades, from rose gold to sapphire black, being bold with your eyes is in the style memo for fall. “Tape à l’oeil means ‘eye-catching.’ It is a woman who exposes her femininity so that no one can miss her,” says the designer. And with that sentiment, the Tape à l’Oeil Eye Colour collection releases nationwide this month.
A fiercely pointed gold applicator handle encapsulates the glass bottle with a gold fluted shell referencing Byzantine and Art Deco motifs, and buying two sets—one for use, the other for archive—feels like a must for these artfully produced objet d’arts. The matte-nude shades perfect the eyelid, creating a perfect canvas for a swipe of a liner, or for a layering effect when metallic shades are applied, yielding a sophisticated look.
These highly pigmented and long-wearing nude shadows will not budge or smudge once dried, as they are formulated with an oil-based gel structure that applies like a fluid and sets with a powdery matte finish. As for the embellished, shimmering shadows, think metallic spikes and 70s-style, glittery tissé fabrics, for the ultimate accented-yet-bold look. Inspired by semi-precious jewels, Louboutin, an avid collector of gemstones, named the shades after them.
